Trend-Spotting — Gold Bead Jewelry with ARME DE L’AMOUR

Image
Lately I’ve been loving this gold bead look I’ve been seeing on Instagram — maybe you’ve seen it as well? It features gold beaded jewelry, like rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, all strung together. Some are large gold beads, some are medium, while others are small…and I’ve been eyeing up some bracelets to add to my signature bracelet stack. While most of these styles use beads that are polished, the pieces from ARME DE L’AMOUR are all diamond-cut, so the beads SPARKLE! This caught my attention right away when trying to find this new trend shed in a different light. Although you can call this look a “new trend” I think it is able to be classic enough to stay relevant and continue to look great with anyone’s current jewelry wardrobes. Totally why I am investing in buying a beaded piece of jewelry myself! I was so excited to get the opportunity to try on the diamond-cut beaded jewels that ARME DE L’AMOUR has in their collection.  The on

A Very Special David Webb Push Present

Image
I’m not certain when I decided upon what exactly it was that I wanted as my push present; I just knew since visiting David Webb a few years ago that I had not only fallen in love with the company, the craftsmanship, the ambiance and aura of the brand…but also the jewelry. Anytime I would walk into David Webb’s flagship store on Madison Avenue in NYC , I felt different — a kind of different that I liked and with it, my appreciation for detail was instantly enhanced. Since first visiting, I longed for and lusted after a piece from David Webb — something crafted just for me, something that could be iconic and signature to my everyday look (because if I did ever get something, it would NEVER come off). It took me several years, a few visits, a long ponder through the hard-cover book that was published in 2013, to finally decide upon the piece that I felt fit me, my style and what I loved the most. It was actually Instagram, in the end, that first showed a photo

The Ins and Outs of Hesalite

Image
Why could a watch with a Hesalite glass be the right choice? This article briefly highlights the properties of this plastic and sheds light on how it differs from glasses made of mineral and sapphire glass. One plastic - many names: Acrylic, Plexi, Hesalite Watch glasses based on the plastic “polymethyl methacrylate” (PMMA) has been produced since the late 1920s. These days, this material is still used under the name acrylic in industry, crafts, medicine and art. Acrylic has also been used in the watch industry for many decades to manufacture watch glasses. Other terms for the same material are Plexi or Hesalite. Subsequently, the term "Hesalite glass", which was first coined by Omega, is used synonymously for all glasses made of polymethyl methacrylate. What are the characteristics of Hesalite? Hesalite glass is much softer than mineral or sapphire glass and therefore much more sensitive to scratches. At first glance, this may look like a disadvantage,

6 reasons why a pilot's watch is the right watch for you

Image
Timepieces that are fashioned after aviation instruments and gauges date back to the early and mid-20th century. Manufacturers like Hanhart, LACO, IWC, and Tutima presented the market with instrumental timepieces with elements from a pilot's instrument panel. Pilots and navigators wore aviation watches not just as timepieces but also to complement and verify onboard instruments in the determination of flight time and position. To this day pilot watches represent these panel gauges. For optimal readability in all lighting conditions, the early models had oversized fluorescent indexes. They were equipped and designed so that they could be operated even with gloves. Some had extra-large housing dimensions with a diameter of 50 mm or more. Today, watches find little use in the navigational tasks of aviation, but watch enthusiasts continue to enjoy a great range of beautiful pilot watches. The prices vary depending on the manufacturer and model. They range from several

Bold Face Names With Big Engagement Rings

Image
Almost 5.5 million likes have lit up Instagram since Jennifer Lopez posted a photo of the engagement ring that Alex Rodriguez presented to her in March: an emerald-cut solitaire diamond on a platinum band. (Kim Kardashian West, Naomi Campbell and Olivier Rousteing of Balmain were among the fans.) But it was not the only classic solitaire in the news. Jennifer Lawrence got an emerald-cut diamond on a platinum band from her art dealer fiancé, Cooke Maroney. And Katherine Schwarzenegger accepted a cushion-cut diamond from Chris Pratt (Peter Quill in “Guardians of the Galaxy”). Other recent engagements have featured rings with a bit more bling, like the oval diamond with a pavé diamond band by Jennifer Meyer that “Supergirl” Melissa Benoist received from her co-star Chris Wood. Then there’s the floral look — an oval-cut ruby surrounded by eight white diamond petals set on a yellow gold band — that Orlando Bloom chose for Katy Perry. And here are details of

The Italian Jewelry Maker Buccellati Celebrates Its 100th Year

Image
PARIS — Maria Cristina Buccellati, global communications and marketing director at her family’s jewelry house, was visibly excited on one particular gray January day in Paris. It was partly because a new Buccellati flagship was to open a few days later on the Rue St.-Honoré, and partly because her family had been selecting more than 200 of its creations for what it calls a Vintage Collection, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Milan-based brand. The collection included a necklace of sculpted crystal beads, created by Mario Buccellati, Ms. Buccellati’s grandfather and founder of the jewelry house. The piece was a gift for the Italian writer Gabriele D’Annunzio to present to his lover, the Italian actress Eleonora Duse. “E’ bellissima,” Ms. Buccellati exclaimed as she displayed a picture of the necklace on her cellphone. In April, about 30 pieces from the collection were presented to invited guests in Paris. Another selection will have a

5 Tips For Buying a New Watch

Image
When I am writing, I tend to forget that not everyone is a watch nut or has an in-depth knowledge about watches or watch manufacturers. Of course, this is not mandatory when buying a new watch, but let me at least give you some hints and tips when you are buying a new watch for the first time. Feel free to contribute your own tips and experiences in the comments section. Let’s assume that you already have set your mind on a certain brand and model and are ready to buy. Keep the next five tips in your mind when you are about to purchase that beautiful timekeeper. 1. Ask about After Sales Service     Like a car, a watch needs maintenance. Or – also like a car – a watch can break. Mechanical watches are (partly) made and assembled by human hands, so things might have gone wrong in the process. Also, dropping a watch or bumping it into a door effects a mechanical watch more than it does a quartz watch. So at some point you will need to have the watch serviced or rep
