Original vs. Reissue: Longines Heritage Diver

Image
Reinventing the Old with the New Vintage reissues have become an increasingly popular offering in the modern market. Whether commemorating an anniversary or reviving a beloved edition, brands are making vintage reissues a regular part of their catalogs. For some vintage purists, these reeditions can be polarizing. However, many would argue that reissues combine the best of both worlds. They have the charm of the past with the best new materials and technical advancements the market has to offer. Every so often, there’s a reedition that pleases both sides of the fence – a model that hits that sweet spot. It truly captures the essence of its vintage predecessor. It also has just enough modern touches to appeal to the contemporary collector. One such example is the Longines Legend Diver. The Original Longines Legend Diver The roots of the Longines Legend Diver date back to the 1960s during the heyday of amateur and professional diving. The brand’s dive watch efforts b

A short history: jewels for cats and inspired by cats

Image
I’m here to talk about jewelry inspired by the garden-variety domestic shorthair, the kind that prowls the jungle of our living rooms. We’ve seen $3.2mil diamond dog collars, but what about the feline? Such elegant creatures. Surely there must be high-octane bling out there for them? Not so much. There are some cute “non-precious” baubles cat owners may find hard to resist. The cats themselves? Well….  We don’t “show” cats publicly, as we do dogs. Cats are more of a private pleasure, which may be why you won’t find many show-stopping baubles designed for them. You can find some cheap but fetching faux-pearl cat collars and a few handmade ones with gemstone pendants to dangle from them on Etsy, but most are tagged “dog” as well as “cat.” I’d feel offended by this lack of luxury for my feline friends, except I suspect they’d roll their perfect eyes: Honey, who needs help when you look this good? Mine always resented any attempt to collar them anyway. My last two

Round Cut Diamonds vs. Cushion Cut Diamonds

Image
If you’re shopping for an engagement ring, you’ve probably noticed all of the different diamond shapes to choose from. Round cut diamonds and cushion cut diamonds  are among the most popular. You may be wondering what the differences are between these two shapes – let’s take a look.  Round Cut Diamonds Round diamonds are the most popular shape because of their timelessness. They’re the most expensive shape because of their high demand and the way they are cut. A larger raw diamond is needed to cut a round shape since much of the rough stone goes to waste after it is cut. They’re also very popular because they are cut to create the most sparkle. Who doesn’t want a sparkly diamond?! Round diamonds feature 57-58 facets, which contribute to a large amount of sparkle. (Facets are the flat surfaces on a diamond that refract light.) The sparkle of a round shaped diamond will also help hide inclusions. Below is an illustration of all of the different facets a round diamon

Your wedding band is one of the most important and sentimental pieces of jewelry you will purchase in your lifetime. Shopping for your wedding bands will be much easier if you go into it knowing exactly what you’re looking for. Follow our guide on how to buy a wedding ring to make sure you get it right. Start Looking Early Give yourself time to browse all of the different styles and prices available. You should start looking for your wedding ring at least 2 months before the wedding. Don’t wind up picking the first ring you see just because you’re on a time crunch. You’ll want to have enough time to resize your ring if need be. Set a Budget According to a Brides 2018 American Wedding survey, couples on average spent $1,890 on wedding bands. Before you shop for your ring, make sure you set a realistic budget. We suggest examining your total wedding budget and deciding how much you both feel comfortable allocating to your jewelry. Luckily, wedding bands are genera

How Thick Or Thin Should My Engagement Ring Be?

Image
While shopping for an engagement ring, you’ll be looking for the perfect diamond. Although the diamond is very important, you shouldn’t neglect the details of the setting that it will live in. It’s important to choose a ring that will withstand the test of time. How thin is too thin for an engagement ring? Thin, dainty rings are in style. They’re lightweight, feminine, and can even help your diamond look bigger. A wider band (or shank) can take away from your center stone. Thin bands are preferable for those who wish to stack their rings – if your engagement ring is too thick, you’ll have less room to add more rings to your finger for important events such as anniversaries. We don’t recommend going any smaller than 1.5mm in width. While thinner bands can look beautiful, they will wear down and can even crack over time. Thinner bands are also more susceptible to bending and losing their circular shape. For extra security, choose a stronger metal like platinum for an
